As your representative on the DC State Board of Education, Allister will prioritize:

Reading Proficiency

Allister has focused his work to improve reading proficiency since 2010. For his work to promote literacy, he earned a spot on the International Literacy Association’s 30 Under 30 list in 2019. He is also the youngest member of the Advisory Board of the Library of Congress Literacy Awards. Allister will work relentlessly towards helping 100% of students to achieve grade-level reading proficiency.

21st Century Literacy Skills

Allister has been a Visiting Researcher at UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning. He has advocated for students to be equipped with 21st century literacy skills, including information literacy skills to distinguish between fact and opinion online. Allister is committed to adjusting DC’s curriculum to better prepare students to navigate the world in the 21st century.

Diversity and Inclusion

Allister will be the first and only Asian-American representative on the DC State Board of Education. Allister is committed to diversifying DC’s curriculum to be more relevant in the eyes of all students.
