Engage

Submit written testimonies for consideration by the Board for our monthly working sessions. Working sessions are on the first Wednesday of every month at 5 pm. While working sessions are open to the public, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate. However, individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the Board. Written testimony must be submitted by email at sboe@dc.gov at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.

All students, parents, educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony at public meetings. Public meetings take place on the third Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm. Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at a public meeting are asked to notify Board staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at sboe@dc.gov no later than 48 hours in advance of the meeting. An electronic copy of testimony must be received no later than 48 hours prior to the meeting.

Raise a Concern

If you are a parent having issues with your child’s school, you may file a complaint with the DC Office of the Ombudsman for Public Education. A complaint may be filed by any individual or organization as long as the student in question attends a District of Columbia Public School or DC public charter school. Concerns may be discussed via phone (202) 741-0886 and/or email ombudsman@dc.gov. The Ombudsman’s office receives calls regarding a wide range of topics ranging from bullying and student safety to special education resource needs. The Ombudsman may help moderate conversations between stakeholders and/or guide parents through the available options to address the concern.
